What do you think of when you think of young couples? Couples who should be having a lot of sex right? You would think that young couples would have boundless energy and time to have sex. However, that isn’t always the case.
Recently there has been a phenomenon of “sex-less” young couples. Surprisingly it is quite common for young couples to experience reduced sexual activity where they are only having sex once to twice a month. This drop in sexual activity between a couple can happen for many reasons such as a new baby and parenting, partners focus on careers, economic stress, or conflict.
Research suggests that a way to counter a sex-less relationship and strengthen intimacy is to give special attention to how couples handle conflict. I suggest starting with the win/win approach. Instead of acting like rivals, get on the same team! This shift in attitude can have a powerful change on the way you communicate with your partner. So instead of following your initial reaction to become defensive and attack during an argument, collaborate with your partner to problem solve so that you both win.
